Sail Rock

Easternmost Bit of Land in the United States

Just off shore from Lubec's West Quoddy Lighthouse, winter's frigid Bay-of-Fundy waters form ice on the edges of tiny Sail Rock.

Bitter cold air and relatively warm water creates water vapor, sometimes called seasmoke, to nearly obscure the western cliffs of New Brunswick island, Grand Manan, several miles distant.
